About The Artists

New Orleans Suspects

New Orleans Suspects, riding their Top 10 blues radio-charted album Kaleidoscoped, and fresh from tours with Bonerama, Leftover Salmon, New Mastersounds and Paul Barerre and Fred Tackett of Little Feat, make their debut appearance at the Florida Jazz and Blues Festival Oct. 29, 2017.  The New Orleans Suspects are a band that’s fallen into a groove and are rapidly working their way into the consciousness of educated music fans around the country. With a sound that’s familiar enough to be welcoming, yet challenging enough to please the most critical of purists, The Suspects are putting their own spin on the music of New Orleans as they layer boogie-woogie piano, soulful blues guitar and jazzy horns on top of funky bass lines and complex rhythms. The result is a wildly infectious sound that pays tribute to everyone from James Booker and Bobby Charles, to The Meters and Galactic.

Refugees from a variety of New Orleans outfits such as The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, The Neville Brothers and The Radiators join for a rousing celebration of rock, world beat, and lots of Crescent City funk. With the backbeats of veteran drummer Mean Willie Green (Neville Bros., Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Grateful Dead) these guys lock together and explode on stage.

Frank Jones Band

The Frank Jones Band is a dance driven Soul and Blues band made up of some of Tallahassee’s finest musicians. The group has southern soul vocalist/guitar player, Frank Jones, leading the show with influences ranging from Albert Collins, The Funky Meters, Clarence Carter and Ray Charles. Bringing the beats to the music is legendary Steve Howell on drums accompanied by Kevan McCann and his foot stomping energy and tasty funky bass playing. Last, but not least, Clyde Ramsey on harmonica/keyboards as well as vocals; imagine John Lennon and Little Walter had a son. This band has a wonderful array of dance music and never fails to get the booties shaking!

Lauren Mitchell

Lauren Mitchell has a soul-stirring voice and an arresting presence. A mesmerizing performer with a voice for the ages. Lauren is a student of the blues, a music that at its core is about taking difficult experiences and finding a way to transform them into something cathartic, about finding deep truths in a sea of raw-nerve emotion. She makes each song her own whether they are covers or her own compositions. Lauren connects with the audience and sings with emotions that go deep inside and she leaves every drop of herself on the stage. With her seasoned bluesmen backing her up, be prepared for a full throttle blues performance!

The Wycliffe Gordon Quartet with Sabine

Musical ambassador and interpreter of America’s music, Wycliffe Gordon has had an impressive career touring the world performing hard-swinging, straight-ahead jazz with high acclaim from audiences and critics alike. His unmatched modern mastery of the plunger mute and his exceptional technique and signature sound, has solidified Gordon a place in musical history known as one of the top trombonists of his generation.

SABINE

Widely respected as an award-winning classical pianist in the United States and Europe, and also respected greatly as a major jazz pianist from her work with Scotty Barnhart Quintet (Barnhart is also director of the Count Basie Orchestra) at the San Jose Jazz Festival, Idyllwild Jazz Festival and other venues, Sabine Pothier is one of most talented musicians in the world. Fans and critics alike are welcoming a new and powerful voice in the world of jazz piano.

Beautiful Bobby Blackmon & the B3 Band

Beautiful Bobby is a soulful entertainer who truly plays for his audience. Bobby lays down the Blues with Contemporary Southern Soul/Blues & Classic R&B music. In June, 2006, he dazzled new fans by opening for Buddy Guy at the House of Blues-Orlando. In May 2010 Bobby opened for the Legendary BB King in Orlando. His goal is to keep the Blues alive and not let people forget that Soul Music, Funk & Jazz was all born from Blues.  His current 2017 CD, “Throwback Blues” has enjoyed excellent reviews and airplay in the U.S. and other countries. His high energy blues show is not one to miss.
